Soil Management
Despite some signs of low-level compaction and loss of structure the A1 horizon and the soil profile as a whole has good soil water retention properties. The good to moderate water retention and CEC indicate this soil should be relatively straightforward to irrigate and fertilize. In relation to irrigation, the refill point for the A1 horizon is between 32 % (50 kPa) to 27 % (100 kPa) soil moisture. Management is encouraged to continue bed management practices, or consider means to increase return of carbon residues to the tree mound including pruning’s, grass clippings, manure and mulches. Low sodicity in the subsoil indicates these soils are suitable for subsoil drainage.
