Soil Chemistry Overview
This data reflects both the natural elemental composition at the site and the historical influence of nutrient management. Some soil properties such as organic carbon indicate overall soil health, whilst other such as Sodicity, Aluminium and salinity may indicate constraints to root growth and soil water extraction. Comparison between sites of the same soil type will help better understand the difference between these two influencing factors. High or low levels of some nutrients may indicate that some changes in nutrient management may be necessary and we suggest that you contact your local agronomist for their recommendations.
Soil pH is in the A11 is neutral at 6.7 h20 trending to moderately acid in the subsequent soil horizons. The cation exchange capacity (CEC) is moderate in the A11 and A12 horizons at 23.0 meq/100g and 12.3 meq/100g, and low at 7.7 meq/100g in the B2 subsoil. This indicates the soil has good ability to hold and supply nutrients to the tree. The organic carbon content in the A11 horizon is very high at 3.9 %, and high in the A12 horizon at 2.0 %. The topsoil is slightly to moderately saline (EC) which is somewhat surprising as there is little evidence of salt in the other soil horizons. The soil profile is non-sodic. Phosphorous and Sulphur levels in the A11 horizon are noted to be high.
